Buckeyes Open Winter Invite With Eight Event Wins

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State swimming & diving team started off the championship season with several personal-best times on Saturday at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Sophomore Laura Banks and freshman Hudson McDaniel both posted NCAA “B” Cuts in the 100 Breaststroke, with Banks clocking in at 1:01.83 on the women’s side and McDaniel posting a time of 54.08 on the men’s side. OSU finished the night with eight first-place finishes in the final session.

• Women’s 100 Breast – Laura Banks (1:02.42)
• Men’s 100 Breast – Hudson McDaniel (54.23)
• Women’s 100 Breast – Quinn Fike (55.64)
• Men’s 100 Back – Evan Stapp (48.29)
• Men’s 400 IM – Reed McGraw (3:56.67)
• Men’s 200 Free Relay – Joe Pohlmann, Michael Lynch, Lain Weaver, Evan Stapp (1:20.90)

FINAL SESSION – WOMEN
• The women’s 200 Medley Relay of Quinn Fike, Laura Banks, Alissa Cook and Emma Fish won with a time of 1:44.06.
• In the women’s 500 Free, Kendyl Ferrara took fifth with a career-best time of 4:55.14. Lauren Kurzydlo placed seventh at 4:58.21.
• Laura Banks took gold in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:02.42 after hitting an NCAA “B” Cut time of 1:01.83 in the morning session. Sarah Sperber placed fifth in the final with a time of 1:03.53.
• Two Buckeyes placed in the 100 Back. Fike won the event with a time of 55.64 and Fish finished in sixth, clocking in at 56.40.
• Alissa Cook placed fourth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:26.43.
• Katie Wright took seventh in the 100 Free with a time of 51.69, and Lauren Kurzydlo placed eighth at 51.90.

FINAL SESSION – MEN
• Evan Stapp, Ben Sugar, Joe Pohlmann and Michael Lynch took second in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:27.31, followed by the team of Colin Roy, Hudson McDaniel, Lain Weaver and Dom Harry in third with a time of 1:29.41.
• Austin Mortimer placed third in the 500 Free with a time of 4:29.16, followed by John Sampson in fourth with a career best of 4:29.75.
• Pohlmann snagged third in the 100 Fly with a time of 48.50, followed by Trey Gribble in fifth, posting a time of 49.29.
• Three Buckeyes placed in the 100 Breast led by McDaniel with a time of 54.23. In the prelim session, McDaniel set a personal best with an NCAA “B” Cut of 54.08. Alex Jahan followed in second with a time of 54.85, while Harry placed fourth, registering a time of 56.23.
• Reed McGraw took first in the 400 IM with a time of 3:56.67.
• In the 100 Free, Lain Weaver placed third with a season best of 45.27. Colin Roy posted a 45.88 to snag sixth, Michael Lynch placed seventh with a time of 46.03 and Joe Pohlmann took eighth with 46.91.
• Pohlmann, Lynch, Weaver and Stapp teamed up to take first in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:20.90. They were followed in second by McDaniel, Roy, Harry and Sampson with a time of 1:23.87.
