DES MOINES, Iowa – The Ohio State men’s track and field team opened competition at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championships Wednesday evening at Drake Stadium.

All-Americans Thomas Murdaugh and Cory Leslie were first on the track for the Buckeyes, competing in the 400m dash and 3000m steeplechase semifinals. Murdaugh turned in the top finish of the two, earning Second Team All-American honors with a 15th-place and season-best time of 46.02. Leslie completed the steeplechase in a time of 9:00.68, good for an 18th-place finish and Honorable Mention All-America. Unfortunately, both athletes failed to qualify for Saturday’s championship races.

Michael Hartfield, Jake Edwards and the 4x400m relay team, anchored by Murdaugh, are set to compete tomorrow for Ohio State. Hartfield will vie for the national title in the long jump at 6:35 p.m. ET, while Edwards and the 4×4 are scheduled to run in semifinal heats at 7:15 p.m. and 9:20 p.m., respectively.
