COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State wrestling team opens at No. 10 in the first NWCA poll of the season. Eleven Big Ten teams are ranked among the Top 25 and five are in the Top 10.
Behind a runner-up finish from Sammy Sasso and three All-Americans, Ohio State finished ninth at the 2021 NCAA Wrestling Championships in St. Louis last March.
Seven Buckeyes competed in the 2021 NCAA Championships and all seven advanced to the second day and three earned All-America honors – Sammy Sasso, Ethan Smith and Tate Orndorff.
Under head coach Tom Ryan (since 2007), the Buckeyes have finished in the Top 10 at the NCAA Championships in all but one season.
The No. 10 Buckeyes are set to open the 2021-22 season at 1 p.m. Sunday vs. North Carolina at the Covelli Center.
