ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Ohio State women’s soccer team fell to Michigan, 3-1, in an exhibition match Wednesday night at U-M Soccer Stadium.

“It’s so early in the preseason to have a scrimmage but I was happy for some combinations to see the field that will take some time to gel,” Lori Walker, Ohio State head coach, said. “I thought we got a lot of players in the game who needed the experience whether they are newcomers or players who have missed some time. We have some things that need tightened up but that’s why we have two scrimmages this year against two very good teams.”

Lindsay Agnew scored the Buckeye goal when she dispossessed a Michigan defender and finished far post past the Michigan goalkeeper in 87th minute.

A couple more notes from Wednesday’s exhibition:
– 15 Buckeyes played in the exhibition.
– Multiple players saw their first game action in a Buckeye uniform including Arden Holden, Sarah Roberts, Kylie Knight and Eleanor Gabriel.
Jillian McVicker played all 90 minutes in goal for the Buckeyes, tallying five saves, after missing the entire 2014 season with a knee injury. The redshirt junior made a pair of brilliant stops, one lunging toward the right post in the 29th minute, and another diving to her left off a shot from 18 yards in the 52nd minute.
– The Buckeyes had three more excellent goal-scoring opportunities besides the Agnew tally. Morgan Wolcott got her head on a Nikki Walts corner but it sailed wide right in the 44th minute, a volley from Agnew from 10 yards floated just high off a Nicole Miyashiro cross in the 72nd minute and Nichelle Prince rocketed a shot near post from 20 yards in the 74th minute, forcing the Michigan goalkeeper to make a diving save.

Ohio State hosts Wake Forest in an exhibition at 7 p.m. Saturday at Bert L. & Iris S. Wolstein Field at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium before opening the regular season at home against Illinois State at 7 p.m. Aug. 21.
