Buckeyes Named to CSC Academic All-District At-Large Teams

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Eight Ohio State Buckeyes have earned a spot on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District At-Large Teams, CSC announced Tuesday. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 grade-point average at his/her current institution.

Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced June 21 (men) and June 22 (women).

Women’s gymnast Lexi Edwards became Ohio State’s first All-American since 2012 after her success on floor at the 2023 NCAA Championships. The Richmond, Va. native earned a 9.9375 in her final collegiate routine to earn Second Team All-America honors. Edwards led the Buckeyes on floor this season, recording a career-high 9.975 in two meets on the year. Overall, she won six event titles and 14 scores of 9.900 or higher. The Spring 2023 Ohio State graduate earned a degree in psychology.

Emma Goldean set the field hockey program record for career games played (90) in 2022 while also earning All-Big Ten, All-Region and Third Team All-America honors. She wrapped up her career last fall as the third leading scorer on the team with 16 points on five goals and six assists. Goldean’s play helped Ohio State win 11 games this past fall, its most since 2018. The Buckeyes finished strong, winning eight of their final 11 games to earn a spot in the conference tournament. An Academic All-Big Ten honoree and member of the NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, Goldean graduated with a degree in biology last December.

Sophie Jaques recorded another historic season for the Ohio State women’s hockey team this year. She became the program’s first Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award winner and also earned WCHA Player of the Year and Defender of the Year honors. The two-time First Team All-American led defensemen nationally in scoring and was second on the team with 48 points in 24 goals and 24 assists. On the Buckeyes’ top-ranked power play, she led the nation with nine power play goals. The Toronto, Ontario, native is currently working towards her master’s in civil engineering and will graduate in August.

Jack Myers closed his Buckeye career by etching his name in the Buckeye men’s lacrosse record book. The attackman from Bethesda, Md. led the Buckeyes with 42 points in 2023 on 20 goals and a team-high 22 assists this season. He became just the third player in program to record 100 assists and the sixth player to tally 200 points and finished his career with 121 goals, 115 assists and 236 points. After graduating earlier this month with a degree in finance, Myers was drafted 20th overall by the Chrome Lacrosse Club in the 2023 Premier Lacrosse League College Draft.

In 2023, Kameron Nelson became the first Ohio State men’s gymnast in six years to earn All-America honors three times in a single NCAA Championship meet. Nelson finished third on floor (14.766, personal-best and stuck his final pass), fifth on vault (14.800, tied personal best and stuck his landing) and sixth in the all-around (81.665, personal best). He began the season as a Big Ten Gymnast to Watch and ended with a spot on the All-Big Ten Second Team. Nelson finished the season ranked in the Top 25 nationally in three events – floor (seventh with a national-qualifying average of 14.138), vault (eighth with a NQA of 14.575) and rings (24th with a NQA of 13.475). He was named an OSU Scholar Athlete and Academic All-Big Ten as well. Following the conclusion of the collegiate season, Nelson represented USA Gymnastics at the 2023 Cairo World Cup, qualifying for the finals on both vault (finished fifth) and floor (finished eighth) in his first senior-level international competition.

Jack Price, a junior fencer from Franklin Lakes, N.J., earned First Team All-America honors after tying for third place at the 2023 NCAA Championships in his first appearance at the national meet. He was third at the NCAA regionals, earned the silver medal at the the Central Collegiate Fencing Association individual championships and garnered a spot on the all-conference first team. Price helped the Buckeyes to a fifth-place team finish at the NCAA Championships and to the CCFC men’s title. The USFCA Scholar of Distinction is an information systems major.

Wrestler Kaleb Romero earned a third-place finish at the 2023 NCAA Championships at 184 pounds to secure All-America status for the second time in his career and help the Buckeyes finish fourth in the team competition. Romero is Ohio State’s 2023 Big Ten Medal of Honor winner, a four-time NWCA Scholar All-America and five-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

Rower Jessy Vermeer is a 2022 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, a second team All-Big Ten selection in 2023 and a Second Team Pocock Second Team All-American. She is currently a member of Ohio State’s First Varsity Eight that qualified for the 2023 NCAA Rowing Championships.
