Buckeyes Move Up Behind 4 Under-Par Rounds

ERIN, Wisc. – Behind four under-par rounds, Ohio State climbed into the Top 10 after two rounds of the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills Golf Club. The Buckeyes carded an 11-under 277 and sit in ninth place heading into Tuesday’s final round.

Sophomore Maxwell Moldovan followed his opening round 70 with a bogey-free round of 5-under 67 on Monday. He has made just one bogey through his first two trips around Erin Hills. Only one other player in the Top-10 has one or fewer bogeys through the first 36 holes. Moldovan will start the final round tied for 9th and just four shots off the lead.

Patrick Schmucking was three-over through his first four holes on Monday but then made five birdies and an eagle over his next nine holes. He finished with a 3-under 69 which was his lowest round as a Buckeye. That jumped him into a tie for 41st at 1-under par.

JonErik Alford is 2-under for the 36 holes as he carded a 2-under 70 on Monday. He made a total of four birdies in his round and played the final 10 holes at 2-under. Freshman Jacob Tarkany was the fourth Buckeye under-par as he carded his first collegiate sub-par round with a 1-under 71. He too made four birdies on the day.

Grant Engle rounded-out the scoring five with a solid round of his own, an even-par 72.

The Washington County Individual tournament, played at nearby Washington County Golf Course, concluded on Monday. Junior Jackson Chandler finished in a tie for seventh following rounds of 66-71 (-7). Marco Steyn posted a 4-under 68 on Tuesday that featured a stretch of five birdies in six holes. He was tied for 11th at 5-under par. Sophomore Adam Wallin matched Steyn with his own stretch of five birdies in six holes and he too posted a final round 68 to finish tied for 17th at 3-under par.
