COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s gymnastics program mourns the loss of Buckeye alumni, friend and supporter Mike Sexton, who recently passed away at the age of 72 after a battle with cancer. Sexton was a three-year letterwinner for the Buckeyes from 1967-69 and a longtime supporter of Buckeye gymnastics.

“The passing of Mike is sad news for Buckeye Nation,” Rustam Sharipov, Ohio State head coach, said. “We lost a great man, alum, father, brother, uncle and a wonderful and caring human being. His great love for our program was unconditional. Mike was always one of the first people asking what he could do. His athletic scholarship endowment impacted young student-athletes every year. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Sexton family. We will never forget Mike and what he did for our program.”

After his time in Columbus, Sexton went on to become a beloved poker champion and commentator, nicknamed the “Ambassador of Poker” for his lifelong promotion of the game.
