Buckeyes Make Postseason Statement in B1G Tournament


Senior reliever Seth Kinker and senior outfielder Tyler Cowles were each named to the 2018 Big Ten All-Tournament Team, the conference announced Sunday from Omaha, Neb.

Kinker, from Huntington, W. Va., claimed two saves in 4.2 scoreless innings in two appearances in his final Big Ten Tournament. He struck out seven and allowed just two hits. He posted a three-inning save on one hit with three strikeouts in a 2-0 shutout win in an elimination game against No. 6 seed Iowa on Thursday. On Friday, Kinker shut the door on the No. 3 seed Wolverines, pitching 1.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts on one hit.

Cowles, from Grove City, Ohio, led the Buckeyes at the plate, batting .385 (6-for-15) with one run scored, three doubles, one home run, six RBI and three walks. He led the team with a .846 slugging percentage. Cowles drove in the first run each of the Buckeyes’ four tournament games. After driving in two in a 2-for-4 game with a double in the opening loss vs. No. 2 Purdue, Cowles had a double and RBI in the win over the Hawkeyes and was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI in a victory over the Wolverines. He hit a home run against the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year Patrick Fredrickson last Saturday in the loss to the Gophers.
