MURRELLS INLET, S.C.—The Buckeyes had all five starters shoot par or better to vault them to the top of the standings at the NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional through two rounds, shooting 281 (-7) to get to 11-under par and take a two-shot lead. Caleb Ramirez and Laken Hinton tied for the low round of the day, each shooting 69 to move to seven-under and even par, to get to third and 17th place, respectively. Clear skies and warm weather made for friendly conditions at TPC Myrtle Beach of which the Buckeyes were able to take advantage and tie for the lowest team score of the day.
Caleb Ramirez followed up his first round 68 with a nearly flawless second round 69. Ramirez cruised through the front nine with three birdies, making the turn at three-under par. He birdied holes 13 and 14 before running into trouble at the 15th hole but cleaned up with another birdie at 18. The seniors six birdies in each of the opening rounds are the most of his career through two rounds. Ramirez will take the best 36-hole score of his career and hope to stretch it to a 54-hole score that will help his team to advance to the NCAA Championships.
Will Voetsch played another solid round of golf, finishing one-under par to get to five-under for the tournament after shooting 68 yesterday. Voetsch finished the front nine one-over and carded seven pars and two birdies on the back to take a share of fourth place going into the final round.
Laken Hinton turned in the best round of his Buckeye career, shooting a three-under 69 to get to even par for the tournament. The sophomore carded 13 pars and four birdies in the second round to jump 31 spots up the leaderboard to a tie for 17th place.
Seniors Will Grimmer and Daniel Wetterich each shot even par to stay at two-over par in 26th place.
