Buckeyes in the Thick of Things with 18 Holes to Play in Cle Elum

CLE ELUM, Wash. – The Ohio State women’s golf team is in a tie for sixth after the second round of the NCAA Cle Elum Regional Tuesday at Tumble Creek Golf Club. The Buckeyes sit at 12-over, tied with UCF, after a second-round 295. Ohio State is two strokes behind fifth-place Northwestern, one stroke ahead of eighth-place Oregon State and three strokes ahead of ninth-place Oregon.

The six lowest-scoring teams and top three individuals from non-advancing teams in each regional advance to NCAA Championships hosted by the University of Arkansas May 17-22 at The Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark.

“I am very proud of our team’s composure and we are excited to be in the mix head into the final round tomorrow,” Therese Hession, Ohio State head coach and director of golf, said. “Our team is playing very well so it will be exciting to see how our day goes.”

Freshman Aneka Seumanutafa sits in sole possession of fifth place at 4-under par after carding four birdies en route to her second-consecutive 2-under 70. Sophomore Yukie Sasaki followed up an opening-round 69 with a 4-over 76 and is tied for 13th at 1-over.

Freshman Lauren Peter posted a 2-over 74 in the second round and sits in a tie for 49th at 7-over while senior Niki Schroeder recorded five birdies to card a 3-over 75 and is tied for 56th at 8-over. Freshman Skylar Thompson rounds out the Ohio State lineup in a tie for 71st at 11-over after a 6-over 78 in the second round.

As a team, Ohio State is tops in the 18-team field in par-3 scoring at 2-over par while sitting in a tie for third with 111 pars. Individually, Peter, Schroeder and Seumanutafa are tied for second in par-3 scoring at even par.
