Buckeyes in Philadelphia for Elite Invite


COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State fencing program will be in action Saturday at the Elite Invitational, hosted by UPenn at the Tse Center in Philadelphia.

Ohio State Schedule
8:30 a.m. – Ohio State vs. North Carolina (scrimmage)
9:45 a.m. – Ohio State vs. Princeton
11 a.m. – Ohio State vs. Penn
1 p.m. – Ohio State men vs. Air Force; Ohio State women vs. Cornell
2:15 p.m. – Ohio State vs. LIU

The Buckeyes This Fall

  • Ohio State’s men are 13-1 on the year after a 7-1 record at the Western Invitational, where the Buckeyes topped Incarnate Word, UCSD, North Carolina, NJIT, Stanford, Air Force and Harvard.
  • The women are 10-3 this season. At the Western Invite, the Buckeyes posted wins over Incarnate Word, UCSD, North Carolina and NJIT.
  • At the Western Invitational, Ohio State’s men compiled 47 epee wins, 46 sabre victories and 43 foil wins. On the wmen’s side, epee led the way with 40 wins, sabre notched 37 and foil recorded 33.

In the Rankings

  • The U.S. Fencing Coaches Association announced its preseason coaches polls, with both the Buckeye men and women in the Top 5.
  • The Buckeye men were ranked third, behind Notre Dame and Columbia, and the women were fifth, with Princeton, Notre Dame, Columbia and Harvard ahead.

Looking Ahead

  • The Buckeyes will return to team action in late January, competing at the St. John’s Duals Jan. 21 in Queens, N.Y., and at the UPenn Invitational Jan. 22 in Philadelphia.
  • The squad will compete at the Northwestern Duals Feb. 4-5 before Ohio State hosts the CCFC Championships Feb. 25-26.
