COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s soccer team opens their 18th season at 6 p.m. Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium as the Buckeyes host Kentucky in an exhibition match.

Lori Walker, the 2009 Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year now in her 14th season at the helm of the Buckeyes, will welcome 20 returning players and seven incoming freshmen in an effort to build upon a strong 2009 campaign in which the team finished 14-4-2, tying for the second-most wins in program history. Cassie Dickerson, named a captain for the third consecutive season, is joined by first-time captains Lauren Beachy and Danielle Scoliere. Eighty-five percent of the scoring is back from last season as is the entire starting back line, which played a huge role in the Buckeyes giving up just 13 goals, down from 39 two seasons ago.

Kentucky, looking to improve on a 5-9-4 showing in 2009, returns two of their top three goal scorers in Jenna Goblirsch and Stefani Kildare along with starting goalkeeper Sydney Hiance, who posted a 0.69 goals-against average in 11 starts last season. John Lipsitz is in his third season as head coach of the Wildcats.

The Buckeyes open regular season play when they host Wisconsin-Milwaukee at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
