COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team will be sending freshmen Irina Cantos Siemers and Cindy Chen to the Thunderbird Invitational at Tempe, Ariz. The tournament will take place Friday to Sunday at the Whitman Tennis Center.
There will be 10 other teams the Buckeyes will compete against, including host Arizona State, California, Washington, Kansas, Kansas State, Texas Tech, San Diego, Notre Dame, Michigan and Mississippi State.
Tentatively, the Buckeyes will be playing the first session of doubles beginning at 1 pm ET Friday, followed by singles at 1:30 pm. On Saturday, the Buckeyes are tentatively set to play at the same time, with doubles at 1 pm and singles at 1:30 pm ET.
This fall, Cantos Siemers completed in the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic, where she posted two wins in the singles draw and two wins in the consolation doubles round with her partner Danielle Wolf. She also competed at the USTA Fall Ranked Spotlight where she notched two wins in consolation matches. Cantos Siemers competed in the ITA Midwest Regional Championships as well, where she won the first round of doubles with partner Kolie Allen and lost in singles to teammate Danielle Wolf. This will be the first tournament for Chen this fall season because of injury.
The Thunderbird Invitational closes out the Buckeyes’ fall schedule.
