COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the 14th time in program history the first since 2019, the fourth-seeded Ohio State men’s tennis team has advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. The Buckeyes will take on rival Michigan on Thursday night in a familiar spot, the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex at the University of Illinois.
- Ohio State has a record of 27-3 on the season.
- This will be the fourth meeting this season between Ohio State and Michigan. The Wolverines won the non-conference meeting in March in Ann Arbor. The Buckeyes won the conference matchup in April in Columbus and Michigan won the Big Ten Tournament championship match earlier this month.
- This will be the third meeting all-time in the NCAA Tournament between the two programs. Ohio State won a second round match 4-1 in both 2009 and 2010. Both of those matches in Columbus, Ohio.
- Overall, this will be the 118th meeting all-time between Ohio State and Michigan. The Wolverines hold a 70-42-5 edge in the series.
- Head Coach Ty Tucker is 30-5 vs. the Wolverines in his career.
- The Buckeyes advanced to the quarterfinals with a pair of 4-0 wins over Youngstown State and Columbia on the opening weekend and a 4-2 win over USC in the Super Regional Round.
- Each of the Top 8 seeds had advanced to the quarterfinals. The winner of Thursday night’s match will play the winner of the match between TCU and Kentucky on Saturday morning.
- Six Buckeyes will also be competing in the singles and doubles championships next week. Cannon Kingsley and Matej Vocel are both a Top 16 seed in the singles tournament and both have earned All-America honors. They will be joined in the singles bracket by JJ Tracy and James Trotter.
- In doubles, Vocel will join Robert Cash and the duo will be the No. 2 seed. They have also earned All-America honors. Trotter and Justin Boulais are also competing in the doubles draw.
- Vocel and Cash lead the team in doubles wins with a 32-4 record on the year.
- JJ Tracy leads the team in singles wins with his 33-4 record.
- Matej Vocel leads the team in combined wins and is a combined 63-12 this season.
