COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team heads to East Lansing, Mich., for the ITA Midwest Regional Championships this week. The tournament will take place at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility, with consolations matches (if weather permits) being held outside at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts. The winners of each main draw for singles and doubles will receive an automatic spot to the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships.
The Buckeyes competing in the singles tournament all qualified for the main draw, which starts Saturday, as qualifying ends Friday. Draws and matchups will be announced Friday. The players competing include Kolie Allen, Luna Dormet, Danielle Wolf, Shiori Fukuda, Mary Beth Hurley, and Irina Cantos Siemers.
Teams joining the Buckeyes in East Lansing include: Akron, Bowling Green, Chicago State, Cleveland State, DePaul, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Illinois State, UIC, Illinois, Marquette, Michigan, Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Toledo, Western Michigan, Wisconsin, Oakland, Youngstown State and Valparaiso.
The Buckeyes will have three pairs of doubles competing. All three duos had a bye for the first round.
Buckeye History at the ITA Midwest Regionals
Redshirt junior Shiori Fukuda reached the singles final of the 2017 ITA Midwest Regional, while last year Fukuda and Danielle Wolf (who came through qualifying) both reached the singles quarterfinals. In 2018, Fukuda and Luna Dormet finished as the doubles runner-up.
In 2016, Miho Kowase and Anna Sanford won the regional doubles championship, the first ITA regional title in program history.
