COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete in the Big Ten Preview Friday morning in Ann Arbor, Mich. Both the women and men will run a 6K, with the women starting at 9:30 a.m. and the men at 10:15 a.m. The race will be held on the U-M Golf Course, which will also host the Big Ten Championships in October.

The women will be joined by the host No. 10 Wolverines, Iowa, No. 29 Minnesota, Northwestern and Rutgers, while the men’s race will include No. 29 Michigan, the Hawkeyes, No. 28 Michigan State, the Gophers and the Scarlet Knights.
This and That
- The Buckeyes opened the season winning the men’s and women’s team titles at the Mike Baumer Cross Country Classic hosted by Wright State last Friday. The women took six of the Top 7 spots and the men had five in the Top 12.
- Addie Engel was first for the women and has now been the top Buckeye in each of the last seven team races she has competed in.
- Kaleb Martin led the men with a third-place finish, matching the time by Nathaniel Tamminga, who was fourth.
- On the women’s side, freshmen Audrey DeSantis, Morgan Schmitt, Ana Karmol, Samantha Coleman, Sydney Paul, Rose Hoelzel and Aniya Mosely all made their collegiate cross country debuts in the race, as did redshirt sophomore Ava Tenaglia. For the men, freshmen Keegan Souhan and Colby Adams ran their first races in the Scarlet and Gray and graduate student Tamminga was in his first cross country race for the Buckeyes.
- In the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) preseason polls released last week, the Buckeye women came were receiving votes in the national poll and are No. 5 in the region. The men are No. 11 in the region.
- Sarah Mason Vergote, who has been on the Ohio State staff since 2013-14, was elevated to head cross country coach/assistant track and field coach, in June by Rosalind Joseph, Ohio State’s new Director of Track and Field/Cross Country. Mason Vergote solely oversees all aspects of the cross country, distance and mid-distance student-athletes.
The Schedule Ahead
- After a week off, Ohio State will travel to Minneapolis for the Roy Griak Invitational Sept. 23.
- The regular season also includes the Lakefront Invitational in Chicago Sept. 30 and the Arturo Barrios Invitational in College Station, Texas, Oct. 15.
- Michigan will host the Big Ten Championships Oct. 28 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
- Terre Haute, Ind., will be the site of the 2022 NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships Nov. 11 and the NCAA Championships will be held in Stillwater, Okla., Nov. 18.
