COLUMBUS, Ohio – After practicing at the French Fieldhouse for the first few days of the 2010 preseason, the Ohio State field hockey team moved outside to its new home facility, the Buckeye Varsity Field, Tuesday with a morning practice and a Scarlet and Gray scrimmage in the afternoon.

The players and coaching staff were all excited to test out the fresh AstroTurf, which was rolled down just one week ago. Members of the field hockey team were excited to step on their new turf and head coach Anne Wilkinson already noticed more spring in their steps.

Ohio State will now prepare for a home scrimmage against Indiana at 4 p.m. this Saturday before opening the 2010-11 campaign at Ohio at 1 p.m. Aug. 31 in Athens.

The Buckeyes Varsity Field is located further north from the previous North Turf Field along Olentangy River Road to the other side of Stickney Tennis Center, the outdoor courts of Ohio State’s tennis teams.

The grand opening of the new 500-seat North Turf Field will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3 in a non-conference game against Syracuse. A ceremony will be held prior to the game at 2:45 p.m. and Ohio State field hockey alumni are encouraged to attend.
