COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State rifle team fired a team score of 4694 to place fifth at the 2023 PRC Championships. TCU (4750) took top honors while host Alaska, Fairbanks (4749) finished second. Nebraska (4724), Air Force (4708), and UTEP (4567) rounded out the field.
On Saturday the Buckeyes competed in the smallbore portion of the match firing a team score of 2339. They were led by Derek Keiser who equaled his career best with a score of 590. Freshman Lillian Warren also fired a personal best score, posting a 586 while Viktor Kiss (588), Paige Hollowell (575), and Nate Wehrlen (568) rounded out the team scoring. Competing as an individual, Tyler Hanson fired a score of 570. His score of 590 advanced him into the individual smallbore final where he finished eighth, earning him PRC All-Conference honors.
On Sunday, the air rifle portion of the match was contested and Ohio State fired a team score of 2355. The team was again led by Derek Keiser who fired a score of 593. Lillian Warren (589), Paige Hollowell (587), Viktor Kiss (586), and John Hamilton (584) rounded out the team scoring. Nathan Wehrlen competed as an individual and fired a score of 584.
Coach Tanoue: “I felt the team had a solid performance over the weekend but we just didn’t quite put everything together to perform at the score level we were hoping for. That said Derek equaling his career best and Lillian setting a new career best were fantastic results and we still have one more opportunity in front of us to try and increase our three score average before the NCAA Qualifier.”
Ohio State will compete at MIT for the first time in program history on Sunday, February 12.
