Buckeyes Finish Strong at Windon Memorial

GLENCOE, Ill. – Ohio State got a pair of 4-under 67s from sophomore Maxwell Moldovan and junior Patrick Schmucking en route to posting a 6-under 278 and moved up five spots on the final day of the Windon Memorial at Lake Shores Country Club.

The 278 was the third-lowest round of the day and the five-spot jump was the best of any of the 14 teams. The Buckeyes finished the event in seventh place at 1-under par.

Moldovan carded four birdies and no bogeys over his final nine holes on Tuesday to make a run at the individual title. He came up just three shots shy and settled for a third-place finish. It was his second Top 10 of the season and the third Top 5 finish of his career.

Schmucking bogeyed his first hole right out of the gate on Tuesday but then played flawless golf the rest of the way, posting three birdies and an eagle on his way to his lowest round as a Buckeye. This was also his first 54-hole event under-par as he finished at 1-under and tied for 21st.

Jackson Chandler and Marco Steyn each posted final rounds of 1-over 72. Chandler also eagled the par-5 13th to go along with a pair of birdies. Steyn had three birdies in a four-hole stretch on the front nine before settling with a 72.

Jacob Tarkany rounded out the Buckeye scorers with a final round 76.

Ohio State returns home for a special event to close out the fall. The Buckeyes will host the Barbara Nicklaus Cup next Monday and Tuesday at Muirfield Village Golf Club. The unique event is a mixed men’s and women’s match play event featuring Auburn, Arizona State and Florida State. Action begins each morning at 8 a.m.
