COLUMBUS, Ohio – Behind another Top-5 finish from junior All-American Maxwell Moldovan, Ohio State finished runner-up at The Johnnie-O at Sea Island on Tuesday.
Moldovan closed with a final round of even-par 70 to finish in a tie for fourth at 2-under par. Moldovan carded three rounds at par or better this week, giving him 17 for the year and 56 for his career. This was also his fifth Top-10 finish in seven events this season.
Jackson Chandler made four birdies in his round of 72 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 13th at 2-over par. That was his highest finish of the season. Neal Shipley was just a shot behind him at 3-over for the tournament following his final round of 73.
JonErik Alford was atop the field this week with 42 pars over the 54 holes. He finished with a round of 71 on Tuesday and was tied for 29th at 5-over par. Freshman Jacob Tarkany, who was playing as an individual, had the round of the day for the Buckeyes with a 1-under 69. He made three birdies and just two bogeys, playing his final 11 holes in 2-under par. Adam Wallin rounded out the scoring five with a round of 75.
For the Buckeyes, this was their second tournament this year finishing in the Top 2. They also won the Cal Poly Invitational at the end of the fall. After returning home from Spring Break, the Buckeyes will prep to compete in one of the toughest fields of the season at the Valspar Collegiate on March 27-28.
