EVANSTON, Ill. – The Buckeyes wrap up this weekend at the Northwestern Duals with a 12-8 record. Both the men’s and women’s squads went 4-1 on the first day of competition and 2-3 on the second day.
SATURDAY RECAP
The men’s squad won all but one dual of the day, defeating Cal Tech, UCSD, No. 5 Princeton and UNC. Both the sabre and epee units were victorious against four teams, helping to secure the overall win for the squad. The sabre and foil units didn’t give up a single bout against Cal Tech. Senior Oliver Shindler went undefeated on the day for the men’s squad.
The women also finished 4-1 against their opponents. The foil unit consisting of Camilla Rivano, Gabriela Cecchini and Alexa Laskaris, gave up just two bouts all day. The epee unit went undefeated against Cal Tech and Lawrence. Sophomore Camilla Rivano went unbeaten on the day.
SUNDAY RECAP
In the two duals that the men’s squad won on the day, the sabre unit won all of their bouts. All units went undefeated against Lawrence, going 27-0. The sabre unit was victorious against four teams, including Incarnate Word, Air Force, Lawrence and Stanford. The epee unit had three dual wins and the foil unit secured two victories.
For the women, both the sabre and foil units won three of their duals. The sabre unit went undefeated in their dual against Incarnate Word. The foil unit was unbeaten against Stanford and lost only one bout in their dual against Incarnate Word. The epee unit won all but one bout against Stanford in their last match of the day.
NEXT UP
Following this weekend’s event, the Buckeyes will return to Columbus for the Midwest Fencing Conference Championships on February 23-24.
