PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – The Ohio State women’s golf team placed 10th at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge Tuesday afternoon at Palos Verdes Golf Club.

“Overall, there were a lot of great takeaways from this week,” Therese Hession, Ohio State director of golf and women’s golf head coach, said. “We made some mistakes but the conditions and having many of our players learn about this venue made things difficult. I’m really proud of their effort and they can see that they can play with many of these top teams in the country.”

Freshman Aneka Seumanutafa finished her first collegiate tournament in a tie for 23rd after a final-round 6-over 77 while sophomore Yukie Sasaki shot up the leaderboard Tuesday, using four birdies to tie for 26th after posting a 1-under 70, one of just six rounds under par on the day.

“Any time you’re under par at Palos Verdes, you’re doing something special,” Hession said of Sasaki. “With the rain we had off and on today in addition to the wind, I thought she put together a fabulous round.”

Freshman Lauren Peter tied for 46th, carding a final-round 5-over 76 while junior Adeena Shears notched a 4-over 75 to place 58th and sophomore Sofia Seldemirova, playing as an individual, finished in a tie for 59th after a 9-over 80. Senior Niki Schroeder tied for 61st after an 8-over 79 Tuesday while freshman Skylar Thompson, also playing as in individual in her first tournament as a Buckeye, carded a 4-over 75.

As a team, Ohio State tied for the third-best in par-4 scoring at 32-over par while recording 168 pars, the third-most of any team in the field. Individually, Seumanutafa tied for the third-best in par-4 scoring at 2-over for the tournament while Peter tied for the fourth-most pars of anybody in the 84-competitor field with 138.
