Tournament Website

COLUMBUS, Ohio – It wasn’t easy but No. 1 ranked and top-seeded Ohio State pulled-out a 4-1 victory over host Washington in front of packed house at the ITA Indoor National Championship on Friday.

The wins lifts the Buckeyes to 10-0 on the year and they will face No. 8-seed Wake Forest on Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. ET. Ohio State swept Wake Forest 7-0 last Sunday in Columbus.

The Buckeyes dropped the doubles point for the first time all season, losing on courts one and two. Cannon Kingsley and JJ Tracy provided the lone doubles win, beating Ewen Lumsden and Cesar Bouchelaghem 6-1. Matej Vocel and Robert Cash’s undefeated run ended with a 6-3 defeat on court one.

Singles was a different story. Tracy and James Trotter raced each other to identical 6-1, 6-2 wins on courts four and five, respectively. That erased the Washington lead and helped quite the crowd. Kingsley continued his stellar early season play, rolling to a 6-4, 6-4 win over Lumsden to put the Buckeyes up 3-1.

Cash won his first set 6-0 but fell 6-4 in the second and was battling in the third. Vocel lost a closely contested first set with No. 2 Clement Chidekh in a tiebreaker and was even at 5-5 in the second.

That left Jake Van Emburgh on court three. He lost the first set 6-1 and was down 4-2 in the second before rallying to win five of the next six games to take the second set 7-5. He then rolled to a 6-1 win in the third to clinch the team victory. In all, Van Emburgh won 11 of the last 13 games to close out the match.
