Buckeyes Fall to No. 11/8 Pioneers

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s lacrosse team fell to No. 11/8-ranked Denver, 11-4, Saturday afternoon in Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium. The Pioneers, who led 6-2 at halftime, improve to 4-0 on the year and the Buckeyes are 3-2. Regan Alexander led the Buckeyes with nine saves, while Casey Roberts and Ashley Turner each scored twice.

The Short Story

Each team scored twice in the first quarter. The Buckeyes opened the scoring, with a player-up goal from freshman Casey Roberts at 7:32. Denver tied the game at 6:13. Jamie Level found Ashley Turner for a fast break goal after a Regan Alexander save, putting the Buckeyes ahead at 3:41. The Pioneers again tied the game with 1:10 left in the quarter.

Denver scored the only four goals of the second for a 6-2 lead at halftime. Two of the Pioneers’ goals in the stanza were player-up.

The Pioneers pushed the lead to 7-2 with a goal 1:37 into the third quarter. The next goal came from the Buckeyes at 5:38, ending a 28:08 scoreless streak. Jamie Lasda set up Roberts for her second tally of the day.

Denver scored the next three, with two to close out the third quarter and the first tally of the fourth. Lasda and Turner then connected for a Buckeye goal with 3:02 left. The last goal of the game was a free position score from Denver with 1:06 remaining.

Ohio State was outshot, 26-15. Regan Alexander made nine saves for the Buckeyes and the Denver goalie made four stops. The Pioneers led in draw controls, 14-5, while each team picked up 14 ground balls. The Buckeyes were 18-for-18 on clears, with DU 19-for-21.

Freshman Katie Kaucheck made her first start and had a team-high four ground balls. Caly O’Brien picked up three loose balls and Emily Magalotti and Level, who had three draw controls, each had two.
