PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The Ohio State University women’s lacrosse team mounted a rally late in the second half, but could not complete the comeback as it fell to the Bucknell Bison on Wednesday at Mount Lebanon High School.
The Buckeyes found themselves down early after Morgan Steinhacker and Eve Calabria scored in the opening moments to give Bucknell a 2-0 lead. The Buckeyes responded with a goals from McKayla Conti, Liza Hernandez and Baley Parrott to take a 3-2 lead before Calabria tied it at 3-3 with a little over 20 minutes left in the opening half. The scoring cooled off until the Bison added two goals in the last five minutes of the half to take a 5-3 lead into halftime.
The deficit deepened for Ohio State early in the second half as Calabria and Audrey Walsh scored to extend the Bucknell lead, 7-3. Hernandez stymied the Bucknell run with her second goal of the day, but the Bison used another two-goal run to push their lead to five, 9-4, with 16:28 remaining in the game. The Buckeyes would not go quietly into the night, however, as Sara Dickinson ignited a rally with her 18th goal of the season. Lindsay Epstein continued the rally with her first goal of the game, while Parrott and Wood also scored to bring OSU within one, 9-8. The rally came to a screeching halt when Mary Margret Kenny scored for Bucknell, sealing the 10-8 loss for the Buckeyes.
Parrott tallied a team-high three points on the day from her two goals and one assist. She also caused two turnovers and scooped up one ground ball. Hernandez finished with a pair of goals, two ground balls and two draw controls. Dickinson scored a goal and notched an assist in addition to her two ground balls. Rizzo finished with a team best three ground balls in the game.
The Buckeyes now return to Columbus where they’ll host No. 2 Maryland this weekend. The home finale is set for a noon start on Sunday.
