COLUMBUS, Ohio – Despite four goals from freshman Jeff Tundo, the Ohio State men’s lacrosse team dropped an 11-9 decision at No. 12 Loyola (6-2, 4-0 ECAC) Saturday in an ECAC Lacrosse League game in Baltimore, Md. Buckeye senior James Green had two goals in the contest, with freshman Logan Schuss and junior Zach Rodgers each chipping in two assists and freshman Dan Wertz recording two points on a goal and an assist.

Ohio State (5-5, 1-2 ECAC) will take on Hobart at 1 p.m. Saturday (April 10) to wrap up a stretch of five-consecutive home games.

The Buckeyes trailed 5-2 after the first quarter and 9-4 at halftime. The Greyhounds opened the game with the first four goals. Chris Hurst tallied the first goal at 9:24 before the team scored three times in 1:22. Cooper MacDonnell scored back-to-back at 6:46 and 5:54, followed by a goal from Matt Langan 30 seconds later. Senior Mario Ventiquattro, set up by junior Zach Rodgers, put Ohio State on the board at 3:40, making the score 4-1. The teams traded goals in the final two minutes, with Hurst scoring for Loyola at 2:00 and Tundo responding, off an assist from Schuss, 46 seconds later.

The Greyhounds outscored the Buckeyes, 4-2, in the second quarter. Collin Finnerty started the scoring at 8:29, answered by Green, off an assist from Wertz, at 8:18. Eric Lusby followed for the Greyhounds at 6:42. The teams then traded goals in six seconds, with Tundo scoring, set up by Rodgers, at 5:29 and John Schiavone tallying for Loyola at 5:23. Josh Hawkins scored the final goal of the half with 1:32 on the clock, sending the Greyhounds into halftime holding a five-goal lead.

Loyola scored twice in the third quarter while holding Ohio State of the scoreboard, extending the lead to 11-4. MacDonnell completed his hat trick at 8:24 and Taylor Ebsary scored at 3:40.

The Buckeyes got five goals in the fourth quarter but could not draw even with the Greyhounds. Wertz scored at 12:38 unassisted before Schuss set up junior Mike Pires for a man-up goal at 9:06. The Buckeyes’ last three goals came in the final 1:48, started by Green. Tundo had the final two, coming with 30 and 15 seconds on the clock for the 11-9 final.

Ohio State was outshot, 40-31, in the game. In the cage, Buckeye senior Brandon Freeman played the first half, making six saves while allowing nine goals. Freshman Ryan Brant came in for the second half and had seven saves on nine shots.

Postgame Notes
The game marked the Buckeyes’ first appearance on the ECAC Lacrosse Game of the Week, a national television broadcast.

Tundo’s four goals were a career best. He has a team-high 18 goals and is second with 22 points.

Schuss now has a point in all 10 Buckeye games this season. He has a team-best 17 assists and 32 points.

Green has at least one point in all 10 games on the year and is second on the team with 17 goals.

Wertz had a career-high two points against Loyola. He has a 3-3-6 line this season.

Scott Foreman tied his career high with four groundballs, set three times prior. He had two caused turnovers in the contest.
