CINCINNATI — The Ohio State women’s basketball team fell at Cincinnati Sunday, 64-49, at Fifth Third Arena in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio. Ameryst Alston and Darryce Moore led the Buckeyes with 12 points each while Cait Craft added 10.
Raven Ferguson recorded nine points and seven rebounds in her first start of the season.
Offense was tough to come by as the Buckeyes shot 35 percent from the field and 29 percent in the second half. They went to the free throw line just seven times to 21 for the Bearcats.
“We played with very little pace today,” head coach Kevin McGuff said. “That’s not even necessarily in the full court. Even in the half court, we stood, and we were slow to reverse the ball and we didn’t drive aggressively. We were just really lethargic on offense. We don’t have a whole lot of margin for error.”
After a back and forth first 18 minutes that saw eight ties and eight lead changes, UC took control with a 12-2 run to end the first half and take the momentum into the locker room.
The Buckeyes had their chances in the second half and pulled to within three, 39-36, when Craft hit her second three-pointer of the game. But UC responded with a 9-2 run, capped off by a three-pointer by Alyesha Lovett with 8:20 to play. The Bearcats, behind Dayeesha Hollins’ game-high 17 points, pushed the lead to 15 while the Buckeyes never came closer than nine points the rest of the way.
The loss drops the Buckeyes to 7-6 on the year while UC improves to 5-4.
The Buckeyes are back in action at 7 p.m. Tuesday vs. UT Martin at Value City Arena.
