COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State put forth a gritty, short-handed effort on Sunday in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament in West Lafayette, but a 57th minute goal by Purdue was the difference in a 1-0 Boilermaker victory.

The Buckeyes are 9-8-2 on the season while Purdue advances to the semifinals to face Michigan.

Senior goalkeeper Bailey Kolinski was great in goal today, making nine stops. That was one off her season high. Freshman Kailyn Dudukovich was dangerous up top and produced a number of good chances, including a couple that hit the crossbar.

How it Happened

The first half was an entertaining scoreless 45 minutes. Bailey Kolinski made six saves in the first half and got help from Brittany Duncan and Emaly Vatne, saving balls off the line on corner kicks. Kailyn Dudukovich had a pair of shots that just missed high, and Christin Baumbick scored but was a step offsides. All that happened and it was 0-0 at the break.

Purdue finally got on the board in the 57th minute as Sarah Griffith finished a bit of scramble in front of the net, to put the Boilermakers up 1-0. Despite a strong effort over the final 15 minutes by the Buckeyes, that goal proved to be the game-winner.

  • Bailey Kolinski’s nine saves her one-off her season-high of 10 which she did on Sept. 30 vs. Indiana.
  • Kailyn Dudukovich had five shots in the game. That was her fourth game this season with five or more shots and her most since also notching five shots vs. Indiana on Sept. 30.
  • Caitin Foley made the first start of her career.
  • The Buckeyes were without the services of eight players on Sunday. Senior captain Kayla Fischer was serving a red card while Marissa Birzon, Kine Flotre, Peyton McNamara, Maddie Lowe, Nina LeFlore, Sydney Browning and Ari Pitty were all out with injury.
