COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team was edged by Eastern Michigan, 3-1, Wednesday night at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. With the loss, the Buckeyes fall to 14-19 overall, while the Eagles improve to 13-20 in 2017.

Eastern Michigan scored two runs on two hits and one fielding error in the top of the first vs. right-handed starter Austin Woodby. A two-run single through the right side by John Montgomery gave the away team the early lead. Woodby limited the damage when he induced a ground ball double play to end the frame. Eastern Michigan added an insurance run in the top of the ninth on a solo home run by John Rensel Jr.

Ohio State scored its lone run in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out RBI single by Conner Pohl through the right side.

The OSU staff combined to throw six pitchers on the night and limited the EMU bats to three runs on six hits. Woodby tossed three innings and gave up two runs, one earned with four hits and two strikeouts in his third start of the season. Right-handed pitcher Jake Vance then threw two scoreless innings on one hit with one strikeout and one walk. Right-handed relievers Curtiss Irving and Reece Calvert each posted 1-2-3 scoreless frames in the sixth and seventh, respectively. Right-handed pitcher Ryan Feltner threw a scoreless eighth with one walk. Right-handed pitcher Seth Kinker allowed one run on one hit with two strikeouts in the ninth.
