Buckeyes Earn Top Finishes At USA Speedo Sectionals and German Swimming Championships

Several Buckeyes from the Ohio State swimming & diving team started out strong at the USA Speedo Sectionals at the Busbey Natatorium in Cleveland, Ohio.

Carson Burt took a win in the 1500 free, clocking in at 15:59.08 and improving by 25.21 on his personal best.

Mikayla Murphy won the 200 back at a time of 2:16.40, dropping 1.38 seconds off of her preliminary time. Buckeyes dominated the 50 freestyle on both the men and women’s side, as Freya Rayner (25.94) and Taylor Petrak (26.40) came in first and third, respectively, in the women’s race and Mateo Chavez won the men’s event by clocking in at 22.68.

Alex Jahan claimed first in the 200 breaststroke, posting a time of 2:18.94 and shaving off 3.52 from his previous best.

Lucija Jurkovic, Kerrigan Vargo, Mikayla Murphy and Maria Coy teamed up to the take the win in the 800 free relay, finishing with a time of 8:24.46.

In Berlin, Germany, Kathrin Demler kicked off competition at the German Swimming Championships with a medal finish. Demler finished second in the 200 fly prelim with a time of 2:13.06. In the final, Demler took third by clocking in at 2:12.23.

Both the USA Speedo Sectionals and the German Swimming Championships pick back up on Friday.
