Buckeyes Earn Program Record Big Ten Championship Meet Score of 196.975; Finish Fourth Overall

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 15 Oho State women’s gymnastics team finished fourth at the 2023 Big Ten Championship meet at Xtream Arena in Coralville, Iowa on Saturday night. The Buckeyes (22-8) earned a final score of 196.975 for the highest conference championship meet score in program history.

Ohio State competed in the evening session of the meet, finishing ahead of Iowa (196.800) and behind first-place Michigan (198.00) and runner-up Michigan State (197.550). The team’s fourth-place finish is the highest since the 2012 season.

Ohio State senior Raina Malas was named the team’s Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner at the meet.

MEET NOTES

  • Ohio State’s best rotation of the night was vault, with the team earning a score of 49.350. Sydney Jennings and Lexi Edwards each recorded 9.900s to tie for fourth overall. Payton Harris, Nicole Riccardi and Tory Vetter added 9.850s for the Buckeyes. Raina Malas also competed in the rotation, earning a 9.825.
  • The Buckeyes’ next best event was uneven bars as Ohio State closed the meet with a 49.275. Colby Miller led the team with a 9.900. Harris scored a 9.875 while Alexis Hankins and Riccardi both scored 9.850s. The Buckeyes also counted a 9.800 from Edwards.
  • On floor, Ohio State earned a team score of 49.200. Ella Hodges and Edwards tied for the team lead with 9.875s. Vetter recorded a 9.850, followed by Harris with a 9.825. The final score counted for Ohio State was a 9.775 from Claire Gagliardi.
  • The Buckeyes started the conference championship meet on beam, finishing with a score of 49.150. Harris led the way with a 9.900 in her first conference championship meet. Jojo Warga earned a 9.875, followed by Hankins (9.825), Pritchard (9.775) and Vetter (9.775).
  • Harris also competed in the all-around, finishing with a score of 39.450 for seventh overall.
