Buckeyes Earn Midweek Win over Pitt


COLUMBUS, Ohio — In its final home game of the season, Ohio State bested Pittsburgh, 5-1, on Wednesday night at Buckeye Field. With the victory, the Buckeyes extend their win streak to seven games and improve to 33-11 overall while the Panthers drop to 29-17-1.


  • The Buckeyes did not waste any time getting on the board in the first. Battling two outs, Shelby McCombs singled to center field and Emily Clark doubled to left field to get both in scoring position. In came Niki Carver, who nailed a two-RBI single up the middle.
  • It was Clark again in the bottom of the third, who hit a bomb over the wall for her 11th home run of the season.
  • Pitt joined the scoring in the fifth after a double and error put runners on the corners. Giorgiana Zermenko used a sacrifice fly to bring a run in.
  • Ashley Goodwin added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth when she went yard on a two-run homer, which opened the lead to 5-1.
  • Morgan Ray pitched a complete game to claim her 17th win. She held the Panthers to one run (unearned) and two hits with five strikeouts.


  • Ohio State is now 14-4 in the all-time series vs. Pitt.
  • The Buckeyes are 18-4 on the season when they have scored in the first inning.
  • Ohio State finished the regular season with a 20-5 record in non-conference play.
  • The Buckeyes close out their home slate with an 11-2 mark.
  • Emily Clark was a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and a RBI.
  • Ashley Goodwin had her ninth home run of the season.
  • Niki Carver had a hit and drove in two runs while Shelby McCombs posted a hit and one run.
  • Shelby McCombs, Niki Carver and Emily Clark have reached base successfully in seven consecutive games.
  • Ohio State has recorded at least one home run in 33 contests.
