Buckeyes Earn Best Team Finish of 2018-19 in the Dominican Republic

LA ROMANA, Dominican Republic – The Ohio State women’s golf team tallied its best team finish of the 2018-19 season, placing third at 3-over par at the Tar Heel Classic Saturday afternoon at the Casa de Campo Teeth of the Dog Course. The Buckeyes, who carded a one-under 287 in the final round, finished behind tournament champion 12th-ranked Wake Forest and 16th-ranked Virginia.

“I am so proud of the effort and mental toughness our team showed this week,” Therese Hession, Ohio State head coach and director of golf, said. “We were steady and patient. It was an amazing golf course and experience for our student-athletes.”

Freshman Aneka Seumanutafa notched her third-consecutive Top 10 finish, placing second at 5-under for the weekend after a final-round 1-over 73 while fellow freshman Lauren Peter recorded her best finish of her young career, tying for ninth at 1-over after carding an even-par 72 Saturday. Senior Niki Schroeder and junior Adeena Shears each tallied a 1-under par 71 in the final round with Schroeder tying for 20th at 5-over and Shears tying for 32nd at 8-over for the weekend. Sophomore Yukie Sasaki rounded out the Buckeye lineup with her best round of the tournament, a 2-over 74, to tie for 44th at 10-over.

As a team, Ohio State finished the tournament the best in par-3 scoring at 4-under while carding the third-most birdies with 42. Seumanutafa tied for first in par-5 scoring at 5-under while tying for third in par-3 scoring at 2-under, just behind Shears, who tied for the best at 3-under. Seumanutafa’s 14 birdies were the second-most in the 75-competitor field while Schroeder’s 41 pars tied for the second-most.
