COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 10 Ohio State men’s lacrosse team fell, 16-3, to second-ranked Notre Dame Saturday afternoon at Arlotta Stadium in South Bend, Ind. The Buckeyes are now 3-3 on the year, with all three losses coming against the Top 3 teams in the nation, while the Fighting Irish improved to 5-0.
The game capped a three weekend-run of consecutive games for Ohio State against No. 1 Virginia, No. 3 Cornell and today, No. 2 Notre Dame.
The Short Story
Ohio State trailed by only 3-1 and 5-2 scores at the end of the first quarter and at the intermission, respectively. The Buckeyes held a 12-8 advantage in first quarter shots and a 19-18 edge in shots at the break.
Notre Dame scored the last goal of the first half and then scored the first eight goals of the second half – seven in the third quarter – to build a commanding lead. The Irish fired 25 second half shots toward Buckeye goalie Skylar Wahlund, and finished with a 43-32 advantage in that category. Additionally, Notre Dame had just four second half turnovers and 10 for the game while Ohio State committed 20.
Wahlund finished with 14 saves. Notre Dame goalie Liam Entenmann had 13.
