Rookie Colleen Dean records two Top 5 finishes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – In its second of five meets on the road, the Ohio State women’s gymnastics team dropped its first Big Ten Conference meet to Michigan State, 194.875-191.425, Saturday afternoon in East Lansing. The Buckeyes move to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the Big Ten.

Starting the meet on the uneven bars, senior captain Hillary Dow led the Buckeye charge, scoring a 9.675 to finish tied for fifth while Casey Williamson added a 9.600 to tie for seventh. Ohio State notched a team total of 47.150 while Michigan State tallied a 48.875 for the event win.

In the second rotation, sophomores Nicole Krauter and Williamson tied for the team lead, scoring a pair of 9.725s on vault for fifth. Dow added a 9.700 and junior Rebecca Best a 9.675 to help the Buckeyes to a team score of 48.325, just shy of the Spartans’ 48.900 event total.

With a pair of 9.775s, sophomore Taylor Jones and freshman Colleen Dean recorded the Buckeyes’ best mark on floor, tying for fourth and leading the squad to a 48.550 event total. Competing in just her second meet of the season, senior Kristin Perchatsch posted a 9.725 while Dow contributed a 9.675, giving Ohio State its best event score of the dual and the event win. The Spartans finished second with a 48.525 on floor.

Finishing the meet on beam, the Scarlet and Gray had a team total of 47.400 for a final team score of 191.425. Dean scored another team high with a 9.775 to hold third place and was followed by Perchatsch with a 9.700 in fifth. Best concluded her all-around run with a 9.650 on beam, finishing the day in fourth with a score 38.200. Dean finished fifth in the all-around with a 37.950.
