COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Missouri Sunday afternoon at Bert L. & Iris S. Wolstein Field at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. With the loss, the Buckeyes fall to 0-2-0 on the year while the Tigers improve to 2-0-0.

Ohio State will look to get on track when it travels to UCF for the first of four-consecutive road matches at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

QUOTE FROM THE COACH
“We need to mature and growing up is painful sometimes,” Lori Walker-Hock, Ohio State head coach, said. “We need to be willing to face the areas we need to grow up in quickly. We need to be sharper in transition moments and stop fouling in dangerous areas. The only way you grow up is through adversity so we need to start doing the little things well.”

MATCH SUMMARY
– For the second-consecutive game, Ohio State took the early lead. Ariella Pitty found Kayla Fischer on the right wing before Fischer beat a Missouri defender and curled a beautiful shot inside the left post past Missouri goalkeeper Peyton Bauman for the 1-0 lead.

– The Tigers then responded in the 21st minute, earning a penalty kick which was converted by Julissa Cisneros to knot the score at 1-1.
– After the match remained tied at halftime, the Buckeyes almost regained the lead but Olivia Petit’s shot toward the right post was saved by a lunging Bauman.
– The Tigers then went ahead in the 56th minute when a handball gave Missouri another penalty kick, which was converted by Cisneros inside the left post.
– Less than a minute later, Cisneros added an insurance tally to give the Tigers a 3-1 advantage.
– Ohio State almost cut into the lead in the 76th minute when a cross found Alyssa Baumbick at the six-yard box but her right-footed shot drilled the left post and was cleared away.

MATCH NOTES
– Fischer’s goal was her first of the season after tying for the team lead with four as a freshman a season ago.
