Buckeyes Drop 1-0 Sunday Contest to Northwestern

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s soccer team fell to Northwestern, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at Bert L. & Iris S. Wolstein Field at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. With the loss, the Buckeyes fall to 6-2-1 overall, 1-1-0 in the Big Ten, while the Wildcats improve to 4-4-1, also 1-1-0 in conference play.

SHARPLES GIVES WILDCATS THE LEAD IN THE 37TH
In a back-and-forth first half, Marisa Viggiano played a corner in from the right wing that sailed over the outstretched arms of Ohio State goalkeeper and to the head of Kayla Sharples at the middle of the six-yard box to give the Wildcats the 1-0 advantage heading into the half.

ROBERTS WITH A CHANCE EARLY IN THE 2ND
Less than three minutes into the second half, Morgan Wolcott laid off a Nikki Walts corner to Sarah Roberts. The Buckeye junior ripped a right-footed volley from 25 yards but Northwestern goalkeeper Lauren Clem was there to punch the shot away.

EDWARDS WITH THE BUCKEYES’ BEST OPPORTUNITY
In the 75th minute in a second half in which the Buckeyes outshot the Wildcats 8-2, Sammy Edwards had the best chance when she latched on to a long ball from Marike Mousset but her header sailed over the crossbar as the Wildcats were able to come away with the victory.
