COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team defeated Michigan State, 4-1, Friday in a Big Ten match inside the MSU Indoor Tennis Center. The No. 19-ranked Buckeyes improve to 15-2 overall this year with their 12th win in a row and are 4-0 in conference play. The Spartans fall to 11-9 on the year and 2-4 in the Big Ten.
The Buckeyes stay on the road after their MSU victory to face Michigan (10-4, 6-0 B1G) in Ann Arbor at 1 p.m. Sunday. Live scoring and video for the match is HERE.
The Scarlet and Gray had wins from courts one and two in doubles to clinch the doubles point. The court one duo of Shiori Fukuda and Luna Dormet only dropped two games in its 6-2 victory over Maja Pietrowicz and Emily Metcalf. On court two, Andrea Ballinger and Kolie Allen prevailed 6-3 over their opponents, Samantha Memije and Nicole Stephens. Danielle Wolf and Isabelle Boulais were trailing 5-3 when their match was suspended on court three.
Buckeye Mary Beth Hurley fell to Nicole Stephens on court five in the first singles match to finish, tying the overall match score, 1-1.
Shiori Fukuda dominated her match against Samantha Memije, dropping just five games and taking the first Buckeye singles victory in straight sets (6-1, 6-4).
On court four, Danielle Wolf followed with a straight set win for 3-1 Ohio State advantage. She posted a 7-5 set victory against Maja Pietrowicz and found her groove in the second set as she led throughout, only dropping four games to post a 6-4 victory for Ohio State.
With three matches remaining, Kolie Allen secured the team victory. Against Lauren Lemonds on court two, Allen won the first set, 7-5, and prevailed in a tiebreak in the second, 7-6 (5).
The matches on courts three and six were abandoned. Luna Dormet was in the second set on court three vs. Davina Nguyen and Andrea Ballinger was in the third set after winning set two to force the third.
