Buckeyes Defeat Penn State in Big Ten Opener


COLUMBUS, Ohio.  After a challenging two-match road trip, the Buckeyes returned to the OSU Varsity Tennis Center to defend home court in their Big Ten opener against Penn State 

In doubles, all three courts climbed to an early lead and held off a resilient Penn State push to clinch the doubles point. Andrew Lutschaunig and Justin Boulais took court two 6-3 over Charl Morgan and Christian Antonopoulos. Cannon Kingsley and Kyle Seelig battled from a 3-4 deficit and won three consecutive points to capture the 6-4 win over Noah Sutter and Chikaya Sato 

In singles, Cannon Kingsley defeated Charl Morgan 6-4, 6-3 to extend the match lead to 2-0. On court five, No. 78 James Trotter held off Ismail Saadi 6-3,6-2 in controlling fashion. German native Tim Seibert clinched the victory for the Buckeyes on court six with a 6-3, 6-4 wiover Chikaya Sato. No. 13 John McNally defeated Christian Antonopoulos 7-5, 6-2 to push the match lead to 5-0. No. 29 Kyle Seelig rallied down from 15-40 in the match clinching point to win 7-6(4), 6-3 over Alp Sentay. Justin Boulais went deep into the third set tiebreaker against Gabriel Nemeth and fell 6-2, 5-7, 0-1(9) to give Penn State their sole match point.  

Ty Tucker and the Buckeyes head to Lansing, Mich. on Mar. 15th to take on the Michigan State Spartans in conference play.
