COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team closed out its spring schedule with an 8-1-3 record over a four-week period. The young 12-player squad, composed of four freshmen, three sophomores, four juniors and one senior, competed in three tournaments and hosted Marshall at the Columbus Convention Center in a four-week period.

“Our younger players made some great strides this spring,” head coach Geoff Carlston said. “They gained invaluable experience.”

The Buckeyes return starting outside hitters Katie Dull, Emily Danks and Anna Szerszen, middle hitter Kelli Barhorst and setter Amanda Peterson as major contributors from the 2009 squad that finished 25-10 overall and tied for fourth in the Big Ten Conference with a 12-8 league record.

“Our upper class leadership matured as well, something we will need this fall,” Carlston said. “I’m excited for this group of young ladies. They have come so far over the past few years and they are ready for another crazy 2010 season in the Big Ten.”

Ohio State begins the 2010 season by hosting the Sports Imports Classic, facing Virginia Commonwealth at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27.
