PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The Ohio State softball team capped off a perfect 4-0 weekend at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic with a 5-1 victory over New Mexico State on Sunday morning. The win lifts the Buckeyes to 8-4 overall while the Aggies fall to 9-5.
IN A NUTSHELL
Ohio State jumped on the board in the opening half when Lilli Piper went the distance over center field on her first home run of the season.
The Buckeyes really got going during the top of the fourth with three runs on four hits. Megan McMenemy roped a double to right center and Carley Gaskill knocked the first triple of her career to plate McMenemy. A pitching change for the Aggies didn’t throw the Buckeyes off as Ashley Prange hit a RBI triple down the right field line. Summer Constable followed up with a single to right field, scoring Prange.
Emily Clark started the fifth with a leadoff double before advancing to third base on a grounder. A sacrifice fly gave her time to slide under the tag a home plate for another tally.
New Mexico State broke up Ray’s no-hitter bid in the bottom of the seventh and scored on a groundout.
RHP Morgan Ray (4-2) tossed a complete game, allowing two hits and one run while striking out a season-high nine batters.
