Buckeyes Compete at Furman

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Members of the Ohio State women’s tennis team took part in the 35th Annual Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic in Greenville, S.C., over the weekend.

The doubles tandem of Madeline Atway and Dani Schoenly led the way, combining for two wins.

Ohio State was joined by players from Furman, North Carolina, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Mississippi State, Duke, South Carolina, Georgia Tech and Clemson.

Friday, on day one, the doubles team of Away and Schoenly posted a first-round win. In singles, Shelly Bereznyak dropped a three-set match, while Atway fell to the No. 28-ranked player from North Carolina.

Saturday, Atway and Schoenly picked up their second win of the tournament as a duo, topping a team from Georgia Tech in a tiebreaker. Bereznyak posted a straight-set victory over No. 77-ranked Cristina Mayarova of Clemson in consolation play.

Sunday, Atway and Schoenly both won in straight sets in singles.

Looking Ahead

• Select Buckeyes will travel to Raleigh, N.C., for the Fall Spotlight Thursday through Sunday and to Cary, N.C., for the ITA All-American Championships Oct. 1-9.
• Oct. 14-16, Ohio State will host the Buckeye Invite, welcoming teams for three days of singles and doubles action.
