ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Ohio State pistol team traveled east and captured its fourth match away from Columbus this season, topping Navy. The Buckeyes earned a win with an Open score of 6,603 and a Women’s tally of 3,195.
Ohio State – 6,603 (2,228 air | 2,249 sport | 2,126 standard)
Navy – 6,457 (2,185 air | 2,173 sport | 2,099 standard)
Ohio State – 3,195 (1,582 air | 1,613 sport)
Setting new personal bests were Amanda Ackerman (542 sport), Samuel Gens (566 sport, 1,671 3-gun aggregate), Con Marrinan (550 sport), Bernard Melus (560 sport, 1,630 3-gun aggregate) and Emily Rust (537 standard, 553 air, 1,638 3-gun aggregate).
Several Buckeyes left their impact this past weekend, helping the team come in first in all three open events. Contributing to the win were Katelyn Abeln scoring first in both women’s air pistol and women’s sport pistol; and second in open air pistol and sport pistol. Gens earned first in sport pistol, first in air pistol and third in standard pistol. Finally, Shrenik Jain took first in standard pistol and fourth in sport pistol while Rust received second in both standard pistol and women’s sport pistol.
The school record for Open Sport Pistol, a new event this season, was set once again when Abeln, Gens, Jain and Melus combined for a 2,249 tally.
The Buckeyes are back at it again the following weekend, hosting Coast Guard in their second home match of the season.
