COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University pistol team closed out the regular season with the Final Countdown Feb. 14-15 at the Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range. The Buckeyes swept all three events to earn an overall open team score of 5,431, defeating Akron (4,573), Urbana University (2,675) and Cedarville University (460).

Junior Greyson McCaig led the Buckeyes in free pistol, scoring a 254 to claim first place. McCaig was followed by freshman Seth Bearjar who scored a 251 to place second and senior A.J. Tourigny who fired a 248 to round out the top three competitors.

The Buckeyes also swept the top three positions in standard pistol, as senior Joe Totts earned a 565 score to finish first and senior Kim Hullings and McCaig each notched a 544 score to tie for second.

In open air pistol, Tourigny paced the Buckeyes with a first place score of 566. Behind Tourigny, Bearjar and junior Clay Beckholt finished in second and third place after firing scores of 563 and 559, respectively.

Ohio State also swept both events in women’s competition, compiling an aggregate score of 2,705 to defeat Akron (2,326), Cedarville University (922) and Urbana University (291).

Hullings claimed first-place finishes in both women’s sport and women’s air pistol, shooting a 565 and 362, respectively.

Senior Mariah Skiles placed second in women’s sport pistol (554), followed by freshman Elizabeth Szalajko (519) who placed third. Freshman Elizabeth Buerling finished second in women’s air pistol (355), followed by Szalajko (350) who finished third.

The Buckeyes return to action Friday, Feb. 28 at the NRA Air Pistol Sectionals at the Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range.
