FRENCH LICK, Ind. – Ohio State seized its 16th Big Ten Women’s Golf Championship in school history, sharing the 2014 title with co-champions Michigan State. Ohio State was paced by conference medalist Jessica Porvasnik and runner-up Zoe-Beth Brake, both freshmen.

The Buckeyes, ranked No. 25 by Golfweek, and the Spartans, ranked No. 25 by Golfstat, were locked up after 36 holes before each shot identical scores of 297 in a round number three stalemate. The co-champions recorded overall scores of 895 (+31).

Porvasnik becomes the 10th different Buckeye to earn Big Ten medalist honors in school history. Three have done so twice for a total of 13 Ohio State individual champs. She saved her best for last, dipping under par with a 71 in the final round to beat out teammate Brake. The Buckeye duo was tied for first entering Sunday. Porvasnik’s 216 total bested the field by three strokes while Brake beat out No. 41 Hana Lee of Northwestern by birding hole 17 and concluding with a three-day score of 219.

It marks Porvasnik’s second individual crown this season, also winning the Westbrook Spring Invitational (Feb. 23-24).

Senior Allison Harper stepped up when Ohio State needed her the most. She carded her best round of the weekend on Sunday, posting a 1-over 73 as the Buckeyes clinched a piece of the Big Ten title. Fellow upperclassman Jan Chanpalangsri came through in Round Three as well, accounting for the team’s fourth score with a 79.

Overall, freshman Katja Pogacar was Ohio State’s third-highest finisher. She tied for 31st after registering rounds of 75-76-82 for a 233 total. Like Pogacar, junior Claudia Lim contributed to the team tally during the first two days as well. Lim earned a share of 44th place overall, notching scores of 79-78-80-237 (+21).
