Final Stats

QUINCY, Ill. – The No. 11 Ohio State University men’s volleyball team returns to Columbus with a pair of road conference victories in its back pocket, dropping Quincy (13-11, 5-8 MIVA) in four sets. The Buckeyes (19-6, 9-3 MIVA) swept Lindenwood Friday night to start off a successful voyage into the central time zone.

Ohio State outscored the Hawks by 22 points, limiting Quincy to less than 20 points in each triumphant set (25-15, 25-18, 22-25, 25-17). Christy Blough averaged a dozen assists per set and ripped five aces in his second match back. Michael Henchy and Nicolas Szerszen each posted 12 kills to pace the team quantitatively while Shawn Herron and Driss Guessous each exceled qualitatively with .667 (9-1-12) and .400 (9-3-15) attacking percentages, respectively. Gabriel Domecus put up a dozen of his own, digging a match-high 12 balls.

Four of Blough’s five aces came right away in the opening set. The sophomore setter added 15 assists, too, as the Buckeyes swung .650 (15-2-20). Miles Johnson was on the other end of five Blough sets, terminating each swing for the kill. Guessous was perfect as well, bouncing all four attacks attempts for the kill. Ohio State trailed 13-12 before going on a 13-2 run to bury the Hawks 25-15.

A Quincy attack error opened up set number two, handing Ohio State an edge it would not relinquish. Quincy was able to pull even five times, but never overcome the Buckeye stronghold. Blough dished out 14 more assists and OSU jumped ahead two sets to none, 25-18.

The Buckeyes came out of intermission a bit flat, falling in a 25-22 aberration. Ohio State flat-lined with a .000 hitting efficiency in the set before rebounding at a .381 clip in the fourth frame. Henchy and Szerszen combined for nine kills and the team threw up four blocks en route to a 25-17 match clincher.
