COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State track and field team hits the road for the first time this season, traveling to Lexington, Ky., for the Kentucky Invitational Friday and Saturday.

Hosted by the University of Kentucky (Women – No. 8 USTFCCCA Rankings) at Nutter Field House, events begin Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET and Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

Buckeyes in the USTFCCCA Preseason Rankings
The Buckeye men were ranked 36th in the USTFCCCA Division I Indoor Track & Field Preseason Poll, released January 6.

OSU totaled 22.14 points in the season-opening poll. Nine Big Ten teams in all were featured in the Top 50: No. 11 Nebraska, No. 21 Penn State, No. 24 Purdue, No. 30 Illinois, No. 32 Wisconsin, No. 33 Minnesota, the Buckeyes, No. 39 Rutgers and No. 45 Michigan. Florida was the preseason No. 1-ranked team, followed by No. 2 Texas and third-ranked Oregon.

The OSU women opened the season ranked 57th overall. Six Big Ten rivals were represented in the Top 25: No. 9 Wisconsin, No. 14 Michigan, No. 19 Michigan State, No. 29 Penn State, No. 43 Minnesota and No. 48 Purdue. Arkansas was the top-ranked women’s team in the preseason poll, followed by No. 2 Georgia and No. 3 Texas.

Last Time Out
Ohio State opened its 2016 season with the annual Buckeye Classic at French Field House January 8.

The Buckeye women opened the year with wins in 13 events. Ohio State swept the Top-6 spots in the 60-meter dash, led by Barnes, and featured an impressive 1-2 finish in the 60-meter hurdles from Ray (8.41 seconds) and Franklin (8.53 seconds). Olatoye was a winner in the women’s shot put at 15.11 meters (49-7.00), while Seibert captured first place in the women’s triple jump (12.44 meters/40-9.75).

On the men’s side, Ohio State was victorious in eight events. The Buckeye throwers, led by shot put champion Murasky (19.38 meters/63-7.00), posted impressive early season marks, while Gray (60-meter dash) and DaJuan Seward (triple jump) earned wins in their Ohio State debuts.
