Buckeyes and Badgers Play to 1-1 Tie in Madison

MADISON, Wis. – The No. 6/7 Ohio State women’s ice hockey team played to a 1-1 draw with No. 2 Wisconsin Sunday evening. The Badgers converted during the 3-on-3 overtime period to clinch the extra league point. With the result, the Buckeyes move to 18-8-6 (11-6-5 WCHA) while Wisconsin slides to 26-4-2 (16-4-2 WCHA).

Buckeye Bits

  • Andrea Braendli posted 38 saves in the contest and 37 at the end of regulation, earning her a new season-high. In the second period she made a penalty shot save against Daryl Watts.
  • Tatum Skaggs lit the lamp for her 100th career point early in the first period. She joins the ranks of 11 Buckeyes in program history to reach the milestone.

Ohio State 1, Wisconsin 1

First Period

Tatum Skaggs made her mark on the game early, scoring her second goal of the weekend just 3:14 into the contest. She was assisted by Liz Schepers and Madison Bizal for her 100th career point. Andrea Braendli was called on early to make some big stops between the pipes as she shut out the Badgers in the first frame with 11 stops. Wisconsin outshot Ohio State in the period, 11-7.

Second Period

No goals were added to the score sheet in the middle frame. Wisconsin outshot Ohio State 15-6 but the Buckeye defense held strong, anchored by Braendli who notched another 15 saves. In the fifth minute Daryl Watts was awarded a penalty shot after Bizal was charged with hooking but Braendli denied Watts and the Bucks held onto the 1-0 lead. Midway through the period Wisconsin went on a 5-on-3 power play but the Scarlet and Gray defense kept the Badgers off the board.

Third Period

The score held at 1-0 until Abby Roque put the Badgers on the board in the 10th minute. At the end of regulation, Braendli made 37 saves while Wisconsin outshot the Buckeyes 38-19.

Overtime

The 5-on-5 overtime period remained scoreless so the game advanced to 3-on-3 with an official 1-1 tie result. Wisconsin forward Britta Curl notched a goal 1:36 into the period and the Badgers clinched the extra league point.
