Buckeyes Add 16 on National Signing Day


COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sixteen student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to further their academic and athletic careers as members of the Ohio State men’s lacrosse program, head coach Nick Myers announced today. The group is rated as the nation’s No. 5 class by Inside Lacrosse and features eight players who are ranked in the Top 100.

“We’ve brought in a class of great young men who come from great families,” said Myers. “This is a group that in some cases has been committed to us for three or four years, so you feel really good about why they’re coming here and why they chose to be Buckeyes. Our staff did an outstanding job from beginning to end with this group and deserves a lot of credit for how it came together.”

Elijah Black | Midfield | 5-8, 180 | Mundelein, Ill. / Saint Viator
• Three-sport athlete at Saint Viator competing in wrestling, football and lacrosse.
• Played lacrosse for head coach Bill Sanford.
• All-Illinois and All-American last spring as a junior.
• Scored 45 goals and had 32 assists as a junior, both team highs.
• Enters his senior season with 167 career points (113 goals, 54 assists).
• Two-time ESCC All-Conference, earning the award in 2017 and 2018
• Four-year member of Saint Viator’s football team who led the team in rushing and touchdowns as a junior. Also played defensive back and returned punts/kickoffs.
• Tabbed as the nation’s No. 95 player in the Inside Lacrosse Top Young Gun Senior Rankings.
• Two-time captain of the wrestling team and a state qualifier as a junior.

James Cipolla | Midfield | 5-7, 175 | Orefield, Pa. / Parkland
• Three-year letterwinner for head coach Mike Bender at Parkland High School.
• Eastern Pennsylvania Conference (EPC) first team and Most Valuable Player in 2018.
• As a junior, tallied 116 points on 70 goals and 46 assists
• Allentown Morning Call Player of the Year
• Lehigh Valley Live first team all-area and second team honoree.
• Tabbed as the nation’s No. 64 player in the Inside Lacrosse Top Young Gun Senior Rankings
• Selected as a team captain.
• EPC first-team selection at midfield following his sophomore season.
• Voted the team’s Rookie of the Year as a freshman.
• Mother, Dawn, played lacrosse at Temple and was part of a national championship-winning team.

Eli Ensor | Midfield | 6-1, 185 | Marietta, Ga. / Lassiter
• A two-time Under Armour Underclass All-American.
• Plays for head coach Adam Bruckman at Lassiter High School.
• Helped the Trojans win the Georgia 7A state championship as a sophomore in 2017.
• Two-time all-state honoree.
• Tabbed as the nation’s No. 52 player in the Inside Lacrosse Top Young Gun Senior Rankings.
• An accomplished singer and performer who sang the national anthem prior the 2017 MLL championship.
• Has put on a Christmas benefit every year since 2015 to gather toys for children at the Mary Hall Freedom House.
• Both of his parents, Keith and Cherae, were collegiate athletes. Keith played football at Air Force and Cherae was a volleyball player at Drexel.

Sam Faber | Face-Off | 5-11, 195 | Haslett, Mich. / Haslett
• Talented two-sport athlete who is a captain of both the lacrosse and football team’s at Haslett High School.
• Plays for head coach Jacob Murphy.
• A first team all-state selection last spring as a junior.
• Named a US Lacrosse All-American in 2018
• All-Conference, All-Area and a member of the Lansing State Journal Dream Team.
• Won 82 percent of his face-offs in 2018, breaking his own single-season school record.
• National Honors Society member who is also an Academic All-Conference selection.

Gabe Galbraith | Defense | 6-2, 185 | Dallas, Texas / Highland Park
• Three-year starter and letterwinner for head coach Rich Moses at Highland Park High School.
• Helped the Scots win their 11th state title in program history in 2018.
• Was a first-team all-state selection at long stick midfield in 2016.
• His grandfather, Ed Bernet, is a member of the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame and played in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Texans.

Andrew Guagenti | Defense | 6-1, 180 | Powell, Ohio / Olentangy Liberty
• A long stick midfielder for head coach Jason Godwin at nearby Olentangy Liberty High School.
• Long Stick Midfielder of the Year and a first-team all-region selection as a junior in 2018.
• First team All-Ohio.
• Ohio Capital Conference first team selection.
• Second team all-region as a sophomore in 2017.
• Helped Olentangy Liberty reach the state semifinals as a sophomore in 2017 and the regional finals in 2018.

Carter Hilleary | Midfield | 6-0, 180 | Columbus, Ohio / St. Francis DeSales
• A two-sport athlete at nearby St. Francis DeSales High School in Columbus.
• Three-year letterwinner for head coach Matt Triplet.
• First team All-Ohio in 2018 and the Region VII Midfielder of the Year.
• First team All-Region.
• Led St. Francis DeSales to the Division II state championship.
• Second team All-Ohio and first team all-region as a sophomore in 2017.
• A wide receiver/defensive back in football who led the Stallions in receptions, receiving yards and kick return yards.

James Hogan | Face-Off | 5-10, 175 | Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood
• An All-State and All-Group IV selection by The Star-Ledger for head coach Mike Pounds.
• All-county and all-division honoree last year as a junior.
• Selected as an Under Armour All-American.
• A four-year member of Ridgewood’s football team as a fullback, linebacker and kicker.
• Set the Ridgewood High School record for most consecutive extra points made.
• Member of the North 1 Group V state champions as a sophomore in 2016.

Connor Mitchell | Midfield | 6-1, 215 | Baltimore, Md. / Calvert Hall
• Is the twin brother of fellow Buckeye signee Grant Mitchell.
• Member of back to back MIAA championship teams at Calvert Hall for head coach Bryan Kelly.
• Ranked as the nation’s No. 49 overall player by Inside Lacrosse on its 2018 Young Gun’s list.
• 19 goals and four assists as a sophomore in 2017.
• Two-time member of the Under Armour Baltimore Highlight team.
• Selected as a team captain for the 2019 season.
• Comes from a family full of athletes: his dad (Jeff), mom (Stacy), brother (Taylor) and grandfather (Steve) all played college sports.
• A member of the National Honors Society.

Grant Mitchell | Midfield | 6-1, 205 | Baltimore, Md. / Calvert Hall
• Plays for head coach Bryan Kelly at Calvert Hall, one of the nation’s best high school programs.
• PRLB first team all-area and the 2018 Midfielder of the Year.
• Ranked as the nation’s No. 18 player in the Inside Lacrosse Top Young Gun Senior Rankings.
• Scored 30 goals and added 19 assists last spring.
• Led Calvert Hall to its second straight MIAA championship.
• MSLCA first team all-state, first team All-MIAA and All-Metro by the Baltimore Sun.
• Started his high school career at Buford High School in Georgia where he had 84 career points on 54 goals and 30 assists.

Garrett Nilsen | Attack | 6-0, 180 | Severna Park, Md. / St. Mary’s
• Four-year starter at St. Mary’s High School under head coach Victor Lilly.
• Had 37 goals and 14 assists last year as a junior.
• Has been selected as a captain for the 2019 season.
• Also a member of St. Mary’s basketball team.

Mitchell Pehlke | Attack | 5-10, 180 | Leesburg, Va. / Riverside
• A two-time first team All-Virginia honoree for head coach Nick Worek
• Scored 39 goals and handed out 23 assists last year and led Riverside to a 17-1 record.
• As a sophomore, totaled 69 points on 44 goals and 25 assists.
• Helped Riverside go 20-0 and win the Virginia 4A state championship in 2017.
• His father, Kevin, was a four-time All-American at the University of Virginia and is the schools fourth all-time leading scorer.

Jacob Snyder | Defense | 6-2, 205 | Fallston, Md. / Calvert Hall
• Has helped Calvert Hall, under head coach Brian Kelly, win back to back MILA titles.
• Calvert Hall finished the 2017 season ranked No. 2 nationally by US Lacrosse Magazine.
• All-area second team in 2018 by Peace Report Lax Blog.
• National Honors Society member and honor roll student at Calvert Hall.
• The No. 46 player in Inside Lacrosse’s 2018 Top Young Guns Senior Rankings.
• Selected for the 2018 Under Armour All-American Underclass Games.

Carson Raney | Defense | 6-4, 210 | Frisco, Texas / Episcopal School of Dallas
• A two-sport athlete at Episcopal School of Dallas where he’s lettered in lacrosse and football.
• An All-SPC and all-region selection last year.
• Two-time Under Armour Underclass All-America selection.
• A Texas Top 99 All-Star.
• Ranked as the nation’s No. 85 player in the Inside Lacrosse Top Young Gun Senior Rankings.

Christian Tomei | Goalie | 6-4, 260 | Jupiter, Fla. / Oxbridge Academy
• A three-time US Lacrosse All-American for head coach Stan Ross at Oxbridge Academy.
• Has earned first team all-state and all-region honors for three consecutive years.
• Tabbed as the nation’s No. 53 player in the Inside Lacrosse Top Young Gun Senior Rankings.
• US Lacrosse All-Academic selection.
• As a junior, led Oxbridge to a 17-3 overall record and No. 10 regional ranking by US Lacrosse Magazine.

Stephen Zupicich | Defense | 6-1, 190 | Bronxville, N.Y. / Fordham Prep
• Two-year starter and three-year letterwinner for head coach Chris Helmsley at Fordham Prep.
• As a junior in 2018 was a first team all-CHSAA selection as Fordham Prep won the city championship over rival Iona Prep in overtime.
• Has led the Rams in ground balls for two straight years.
• Defensive Most Valuable Player and a first-team all-league selection in 2017.
