COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State fencing programs were undefeated inside French Field House Sunday, as the men’s and women’s teams each picked up six dual match wins.
Ohio State topped Oberlin, Denison, Michigan, Purdue, Indiana and Michigan State. The men combined to beat their opponents, 150-12, while the women notched had a combined mark of 140-22.
Six Buckeyes posted double-digit wins Sunday. Foilists Miranda Freedman of the women’s team and Lorenzo Mion of the men’s squad both had 14 wins to lead all Buckeye fencers. Claire Teresa Galavotti of the women’s foil squad and James Flanagan of the men’s foil team each had 13 victories. Katherine Larimer posted a dozen wins for women’s sabre and Solin Li had 10 wins for men’s foil.
Men’s and women’s epee both were undefeated on the day. For the men, Nowell Gibson was 9-0, while Maxwell Rodney, Clark Kokenge, Anitya Kumar, Kinley Lavenstein and Matthew Buelau each had eight victories. On the women’s side, Catherine Zhou had a squad-best six wins, while Julia Semikin, Lucy Whittemore and Talia Weiss each notched five.
The men’s and women’s foil squads were 6-0. Freedman (14 wins) and Galavoitti (13) led the women, and Mion (14), Flanagan (13) and Li (10) were first for the men.
In sabre, the men were 6-0 and the women were 5-1. Aaron Buergenthal and Hank Bauer each had nine victories to pace the squad. Larimer was first with 12 wins, with Ariel Gluck second with seven.

The Buckeyes head west next weekend, competing in the Western Invitational hosted by Air Force Nov. 4-5 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
